Review of Good Sign CD by Davol
Davol’s latest CD release in May 2010, Good Sign, is certainly full of just that: good signs. This album composed of electronics and classical acoustics blends into perfect sounds expressing joy and vitality.
Full of life, emotions, and happiness, Good Sign is upbeat, peppy, and conveys pure optimism without being overbearing or intrusive. This is a great CD to play anytime of the day to help you brighten your mood or complement an already great mood.
I really enjoy the way that Davol blends the two distinctive sounds, acoustic and electronic, to create the tunes and melodies we hear on Good Sign. His musical genius is clear as this CD makes a great companion during the day with it’s upbeat rhythms and pace, yet it is delicately balanced so that it can be listened to at night without being disturbing or creating the wrong mood.
Good Sign is truly a musical enjoyment to be listened to any time or place.
Tracks that Delight the Listener
There are eight tracks on this CD. One of my favorite is the last—appropriately entitled “Goodnight”—which is one of the quieter yet subtly upbeat tracks on the album. “Goodnight” gently caresses the mind to a more relaxed state while using sounds that ease the mind into a world of happy dreams.
Often quiet, nighttime tunes somehow become dark and almost a bit depressing. “Goodnight” manages to keep the upbeat, positive groove while soothing the body, mind, and soul into a state of relaxation.
Another favorite on Good Sign is “Truth 2010,” a remake of the song form the online video project. This upbeat, spunky song is almost seven minutes long and makes you want to get moving and dance around your house or office—wherever you find yourself when listening to this song. Truth is an electronic dance influenced track, and one listen reveals this influence.
From PhD to Musical Genius
The creator of this upbeat CD, Good Sign, Davol is originally from Hollywood, California but now resides in Denver, Colorado. Originally obtaining his PhD and working as a medical researcher, Davol started a commercial venture producing music for multimedia projects. This is when and how Davol got back into creating his own music in a variety of styles.
As a young boy, Davol trained in classical piano and developed an interest in electronic music as a teenager, listening to greats such as Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Kraftwerk. Once he acquired a micro Moog synthesizer at the age of 13, his work in bringing together classical sounds and electronics began.
Davol’s musical compositions have been used worldwide on TV, radio, video and other multimedia projects. His first CD, Mystic Waters released in 1989, hit number fifteen on the Billboard New Age Chart, and stayed put for an amazing twenty-five weeks. Good Sign is sure to follow suit.
