Mythic Journeys by Steven and Whitney Boe is a film a bit unlike any other I’ve recently viewed.
This film brings to life the saying, “Every life is a story, and a story can change the world.”
When these words are uttered, it takes a bit of time to think about them and try to comprehend the meaning that comes with them. Mythic Journeys makes this phrase come to life and become a part of your everyday journey–your story–should you choose it.
A Story About Stories
Mythic Journeys touched my mind, heart, and soul in subtle yet amazingly powerful ways.
You have to understand me first. I watch many a film to review and sometimes approach these films hoping I’ll be able to enjoy them, find some inspiration, and, in some cases, just plain stay awake. This film grabbed my attention from the get go, drew me in gently, and held onto me even through the final credits. Now that’s a film worth watching!
Mythic Journeys is a story about stories, about myths, and the deeper, more important meaning they have in our daily lives. In fact, Mythic Journeys dares to attest that the largely forgotten myths of the past can help us in our own journeys, and help us to forge our own stories into the ones they are meant to be.
Myths of Yesterday Create Lives of Meaning Today
I’ll be honest: in college I absolutely loved my mythology class. I didn’t know why, and was actually a bit surprised that I did. Nonetheless, this class was such a favorite to this day I still have the course books.
And despite my reluctance to attend church with my Irish Catholic parents, I enjoyed the stories of the Bible. I’d listen in awe as the priest talked of ancient lands, people, and the greater-than-life challenges they faced and often overcame.
I never thought much about myths and stories–until Mythic Journeys. Now my thoughts are on digging out that old college book full of Greek myths, perusing the Bible for some of my old favorite and comforting stories, and creating my own story.
Mythic Journeys teaches the viewer in the most subtle and engaging way about the power of myth in our lives today. The power of stories to help us cope with the dragons we slay in our modern world. This film is inspirational, powerful, and a joy to watch.
Tales that Stand the Test of Time are Needed Now
With brilliant animation coupled with interviews from some of today’s most noteworthy spiritual leaders, Mythic Journeys shows the viewer how important these ancient myths can be in our modern world. These carefully crafted myths that have stood the test of time teach compassion, courage, respect, the value of truth, and many of the vital values that seem to be missing in the world today.
Mythic Journeys is a story of a king, a sorcerer, and an all-seeing corpse. This film uses this story to engage the viewer, keep their attention, and in the end teach a powerful lesson.
