Why Some People Heal and Some People Don’t
Over Dr. Achterberg’s quest to understand why some people heal and some people don’t, she came to realize it has to do with intention. For over 30 years, Dr. Achterberg has worked with cancer patients, referring to them as her “teachers.” A popular therapy she uses on these patients includes Imagery 101, a practice that helps people to relax and start communication with their body about its healing process.
The patients she worked with had some notable characteristics:
- a strong will;
- a powerful belief they were in control of their health; and
- a strong demand on both the health system and their therapist.
Dr. Achterberg realized that what these patients have in common in a strong power of intention, including great purpose, will, and unyeilding optimism. And these are the ingredients that contributed to the development of her program, Intentional Healing.
A Practical Guide Promoting Healing and Recovery
The power of the human brain not only affects one’s mental and physical health, but can help fend off the progression of disease. Our mind is a strong and effective tool for healing and recovery techniques. Dr. Achterberg’s six CD program, Intentional Healing, thoroughly discusses how to focus thoughts and intentions effectively to aide the body in it’s healing process.

Dr. Achterberg uses her 30 years of research to provide scientific evidence the power of intention is an effective approach for treatment of conditions and as an essential element of the healing process.
Techniques thoroughly described, including its scientific background, in Intentional Healing include:
- exercises to combat the onset of illness;
