Spreading My Wings to Fly: What Animals Have Taught Me by Tera Thomas
If you love animals, you are likely to enjoy Spreading My Wings to Fly: What Animals Have Taught Me by Tera Thomas, published by Hummingbird Farm Press.
The author, a former executive from an unnamed popular weekly television show, shares her personal insights from the animals which have been part of her life through the years.
Some of these creatures are her personal pets; other animals that have taught her are wild creatures.
Touching Stories About Learning From Animals
I believe we are all here to teach by example and to learn from others, and those learning experiences may not come from traditional sources. Thomas focuses the major portion of Spreading My Wings to Fly on things she has learned from animals, and I can relate very well to these touching stories.
Some are joyful, some are heart-rending, but all have a message about living in our own skin and sharing our planet with God’s other creatures.
Also in the book are several chapters which contain regression in which she expresses her beliefs that she was part of or in contact with life energy which migrated to earth and entered our oceans.
There are references to ‘the Mother Ship’ and that sort of thing, which I personally didn’t relate to at all, so I simply skipped these regression chapters. However, if you have an interest in regressions, I’m certain you’ll enjoy these too since they are as well-written as the rest of the text.
Illustrations by Sudie Rakusin
At the beginning of some chapters are unique and engaging black and white illustrations by Sudie Rakusin. They give one a general idea of what animal may appear in the next chapter, but the way the creatures appear are sometimes quite surprising.
For example, the chapter entitled ‘There’s a Tiger in My Kitchen’ is a very witty and entertaining story of her male cat who roams through her kitchen, much like a tiger in the jungle. Anyone who has ever owned a companion feline can relate to how tiger-like these magnificent creatures can be when exploring their domestic jungles.
Life Lessons Learned From Animals
While I found sections of the book which I didn’t really enjoy, I must say that the stories about the life lessons and animals associated with these lessons were very good reading.
The 205 pages are printed with a font which makes for easy reading in a size just large enough to avoid eye strain. This book is a good reading selection for any animal lover.
The creatures included include cats, dogs, foxes, ducks, an engaging bull, wild birds, dolphins, whales, and coyotes.
Read a copy of Spreading My Wings to Fly: What Animals Have Taught Me by Tera Thomas and it will certainly cause you to recall many times that animals have taught you many, many things about life, love, dignity, gifts, birth and death.
